We all held our breath when we saw Kayf pitch forward on landing at the last but one fence at Weatherby on Feb2. David Crosse held on and Kayfi soon recovered his composure and he went to finish third. Sadly that blunder cost him the race.
Thankfully no damage done. We know he's tough and how!
I remember when his companion pony had to be gelded and Isobel put Kayfi, who was just a young foal, in the adjoining box to the patient to keep him calm. As the vet attended to his task, we heard an almighty crash. Kayf, never having been shut up in a box before decided to break free and from a standing start crashed out through the 'window' demolishing the reinforced top of the door. It was a horrific moment and in the back of our minds was the possibility that he had so badly damaged himself that he would never race.
Luckily the vet was on site and declared nothing was broken. Kayf soon recovered from the bruising and declared at such a young age.' Watch me, I'm a jumper'
